“Cheryl is extremely perceptive and equally adept at getting to the heart of issues quickly. Her working style put me at ease, provided me additional confidence and was highly effective in helping me to work through development opportunities. She coached me on how to emphasize my strengths and how to effectively prepare myself for new opportunities. She helped me realize that I can develop, and grow in ways that leverage and compliment my style, values and assets versus struggling with a prescribed way of bringing about change. This approach to development and change is much more easily integrated into my daily habits than forced change.
Cheryl gave me actionable guidance and always diligently followed up. The meetings every other week, by phone and in person, were timed perfectly as it allowed me to practice the items we discussed and apply them to real life situations in a timely manner.
Fortunately, there have been a couple of opportunities for advancement within my company. Cheryl was right by my side to walk me through the pros and cons and prepare me for the discussions. The entire coaching experience was extremely beneficial to my personal and professional growth.
Cheryl’s words, insight and guidance have stayed with me, and have been woven into my daily routines. Even in a very challenging environment in Financial Services, my career has continued to accelerate. I attribute a good bit of that success to Cheryl and her guidance. I am managing a larger and broader team and geography. Cheryl pushed me to be more self aware, to leverage my strengths while cultivating my opportunities. I would high recommend Cheryl’s services for those who want to become more effective leaders.”

“Cheryl was a FANTASTIC coach. She really helped me to focus in on some of the issues I was trying to work in terms of directly supervising a new employee and trying to build a better working relationship with one of the members of my Executive team. I saw immediately results in both areas. I was also able to take her suggestions for follow-up on a particular issue I was dealing with related to two of our plant closings. My boss and other members of the Human Resources team were very impressed with my work.
Taking time to communicate more clearly and get more comfortable working with people whose style is different than my own was also a meaningful outcome from my coaching with Cheryl, as was working to be more patient. I realized that just because someone may not work at my pace does not mean they are not effective in their role. This was a major challenge for me (and I am still working on it) but Cheryl offered me good insights and tools to help me in this area.
Cheryl had a great way of listening and working to understand what my particular issues were. I had a very good and strong connection with her, and quickly trusted her insights and recommendations. I would highly recommend Cheryl as a coach.”
Rassandra Cody – Director, Labor Relations
“Cheryl was an incredible coach. She provided excellent feedback on things I was doing in my career that were causing roadblocks. I use her feedback daily to evaluate my approach and determine if I am applying assumptions to a situation that cause a certain response. The feedback and encouragement on the networking goals has been extremely helpful. I have become more comfortable approaching those situations and have grown my professional network significantly.
Additionally, the feedback on enjoying the journey has impacted both my personal and professional life greatly. She encouraged me to think about why I was choosing certain activities and evaluate whether they were in line with my goals and objectives.
Cheryl was very flexible and knew when to push as opposed to giving suggestions and letting me process them. In addition to the feedback, the practice of meeting to discuss progress on specific recommendations was helpful in keeping me focused on the key things that impact my career. I was very surprised that I benefitted significantly in my personal life as a result of the feedback – behaviors really do translate to all areas of your life. As I think back on the history of our coaching relationship, I am truly struck by how much my life has changed in the past few years. Some of the most impactful learning outcomes from our coaching included the “wheel of life” on priorities, the joy of running without a goal or watch, and the need to question my assumptions. I can’t begin to tell you how much you changed my life, and I sincerely look forward to many years of friendship and support!”

“Cheryl was excellent at helping me combine my education through the MBA program at UNC with my career aspirations to move into a role of greater responsibility at The Coca-Cola Company. She spent the time to really get to know me and worked with me to build a plan to strengthen my brand and profile within Coke. This work resulted in a hiring manager approaching me for a new role without me even having to interview for the position!”

“I enlisted Cheryl’s help as I made the transition back into the very fast-paced Cisco environment after my second maternity leave. Her guidance has been invaluable in helping navigate the complicated relationship dynamics present in any highly-matrixed organization, and stay focused on the most important priorities for Cisco and me.”

Feedback from leaders participating in UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Executive Development custom programs:
Cheryl did an excellent job truly getting to know what makes me tick and things I can do to continue to grow in my changing role. Gave me some great things to think about and put to use immediately. Really felt comfortable talking to her. Cheryl was able to pull out what was needed to be said, along with giving great ideas on how to make needed adjustments along with tools to utilize and put into practice to change my behaviors in a positive way. Able to guide me to the root cause, give great suggestions to look at for triggers, and how to respond to the triggers. I’ve already practiced some of the suggestions with great results! Cheryl was wonderful. She made me feel like I was speaking to someone I’ve known all of my life. She really understood me, and the results I received from my assessments. She provided very useful ideas and knew how to get me moving in the right direction. I will never forget how beneficial our coaching was for me and my career going forward. Asked questions that made me look at the situation differently. Really helped pinpoint my areas of opportunity- it was so worth my time. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation and wish we had more time!
“Cheryl’s work with our group not only brought the team together, breaking down distinctions between the rookies and veterans, academic and business types, but it improved our communications and bared some of our assumptions as we strive to turn our differences from a liability into an asset.”

“It is difficult to put into words the level of enhancement Cheryl’s professional coaching provided to me. I worked with Cheryl during my tenure as Dean at a private college, one that was notably struggling with strained faculty and staff relations. Cheryl’s unique coaching services created a safe environment where I could genuinely examine my core values and strengths, thus allowing me to blossom and best serve the campus. She helped me align my personhood with the position, thereby bringing greater synergy to my role, as well as to my life as a leader. I am infinitely grateful to have worked with Cheryl and consider her to be one of a handful of people that undeniably shaped my life’s journey.”
Lori Montross, Ph.D. – Former Dean of Academic Affairs

“I was extremely skeptical when my manager suggested that I work with a coach to improve my leadership skills. While I was an employee that the company strongly valued, I had recently moved from a position of working as independent contributor with little conflict, to managing a new, highly visible project with a staff of five people with different personalities, and where there were constant changes in the workflow.
From the beginning, Cheryl understood my skepticism. Because of her keen understanding of human nature, she was able to skillfully erase my doubts over time and worked with me to identify my unique strengths. Every session was geared towards harness the skills I possessed to work towards becoming a better leader.
I gained a deeper understanding of myself and learned how to control my actions. What was amazing to me is how the use of one word can change the meaning of a sentence. One day I was telling Cheryl about someone who had “defended” someone’s inappropriate behavior. She very gently said to me, “what about using the word support.” As simple as that sounds, just changing that one word provided immediate clarity. It was the single most defining moment to me, when I realized that words matter, and communication is the key to becoming a better leader. Since then I have made every endeavor, in both my verbal and written communication, to revise my verbs to be positive, rather than negative.
Previously, I was consumed by my job and worked too many hours. Cheryl made me realize that I needed to take time out for myself because a tired leader is a cranky leader, and it is important to achieve that life/work balance in order to remain successful.
It has been a joy and an inspiration to work with this talented lady. I walked away from every meeting a little more confident and anxious to try out the tools she imparted to me. Cheryl is an excellent coach and mentor and I urge anyone who has the opportunity to learn from this wonderful, competent individual, to seize it.”
